Buying a used Ford Focus
The Focus is a family hatchback (and estate) known for the way it drives. Most used examples are the third generation (2011–2018) or the fourth generation (from 2018), which has more space in the back and a bigger boot.
What to check
- On 1.0 and 1.5 EcoBoost petrols, check the service history for on-time oil changes with Ford’s specified oil — the cambelt on these engines runs in oil.
- Diesels suit longer journeys. If most of your driving is short trips, a petrol is usually the better choice because diesel particulate filters need regular longer runs to clean themselves.
- Check that the infotainment screen and any driver-assistance features listed on the car all work on the test drive.
